Although blanketed with snow, you will always be snug as a bug in our cottages which afford full window and door views on three sides. The cottages are heated and air conditioned for complete comfort no matter what the weather. They are also friendly to the physically challenged. Door openings accommodate wheelchairs.
Each cottage has a similar floor plan containing all the essential elements to make your stay comfortable. Each has a screened-in porch facing the woods where you will almost always find a cooling breeze. The windowless side of each cottage gives each solitude dweller the sense of being completely alone.
The open space contains a recliner/rocker and futon (to be used as a couch or double bed). It faces a double window looking out on a meadow. In the background you can see a kitchen table and two chairs, also with a window for a contemplative eating experience.
In all cottages the open space area has, in addition to a recliner/rocker and futon, a ceiling fan with light, a pole lamp for reading, a hassock, a table with CD player, and plenty of closet space.
All cottages have a queen-size bed and night stand with lamp and alarm clock. There is also an overhead light. The bedrooms are right next to the screened-in porch with the exception of Always With You. A twin window looks out toward the woods from the bed.
All cottages have a full kitchen with a normal-sized refrigerator and stove, a coffee maker (with filters provided), a toaster, a microwave, and all the implements necessary for your cooking and eating needs. You will need to bring your own food and coffee/tea, but we do provide salt, pepper, and sugar. The kitchen also contains a table with two chairs (not shown in this picture).
All cottages have a step-in 4' X 3' full shower with grab bars for safety. The water heater is the normal size for a house allowing you to take a long shower without the hot water running out. Also, as you can see, towels are provided.
The vanity has a mirrored medicine cabinet. The toilet is handicap-friendly and has a nearby grab bar.
This view of the porch gives you a picture of the Weber kettle/grill available for BBQ, if desired. Charcoal, fluid and utensils are provided.
An eastern sun warms the porch for a morning cup of coffee. Many retreatants like to eat their meals outside without being "bugged".
This view shows you both the rocker-style chairs and the nearness of the woods. Many retreatants have had the privilege of seeing deer, squirrels, birds, coyotes, and coy-dogs and enjoying the beautiful "noises" of nature from the protected vantage point of the porch.
The library is located in another dwelling we call Herm House. Although small, this library contains sacred texts and various books addressing spiritual, ecological and psychological issues. During your solitude stay, these references are available to you. A CD player can be found in each cottage. For stays longer than a week, a washer and dryer are available in this room (not shown in this picture).
Near the parking lot is a chapel. It is open for visiting from 10AM to 3PM daily.
An alcove for prayer in the presence of the tabernacle has been designed. An open space to the right of the picture (not shown) is the space for worship.
The chapel overlooks the Infinite Glory meadow and Osage Lake. It is a reverent place where nature (God's cathedral) adds its beauty to the house of God.
